airOS Release Blog – v8.5.8 and v6.1.8

Hi everyone,

We recently released the two latest versions of airOS – v8.5.8 for airMAX AC, and v6.1.8 for airMAX M. Both of these firmware releases have some interesting new features and fixes to explore, and the airMAX team as well as the beta testing community have run both of these releases through their paces. Here are some of the key features and fixes from both releases:

airCube Status

In airOS v8.5.8, if the airMAX CPE is in router mode and has an airCube Wi-Fi AP connected to it, the airOS 8 dashboard displays the status of the connected airCube as well. This is a neat feature to let you quickly see the status of the end-to-end connection, right into the customer’s home. Integration between airCube and airOS lets you see what’s happening faster than ever.

Faster Client Reconnection

We are always looking at how to improve the performance of airMAX, and have noticed a few cases where the reconnection of existing clients, or the connection of new clients could take longer than was desirable. In airOS v8.5.8, we have reduced the time required for a client to connect to the AP after a disconnection or on first connection to the AP, for a better user experience.

Regulatory Updates

Many regulatory updates, including the addition of country codes for Paraguay and Swaziland have been made in airOS v8.5.8 and v6.1.8. There releases have regulatory changes which affect other countries as well; when upgrading, be aware of all of these changes so that you do not encounter any unwanted issues if you upgrade one end of a link before the other. Check the release notes at the end of this blog post for the full list of regulatory updates.

airMAX M 900 MHz Issues

airOS v6.1.8 contains a fix for many instances of an issue that some community members have been experiencing. If you have seen an airMAX M900 link reset or perform poorly when using airOS v6.0.3 or later, airOS v6.1.8 should fix the issue and give you access to UNMS as well.

Upgrade Note

Due to changes in the timezone and bootloader code, we recommend that you do NOT downgrade from v8.5.8 to v8.5.7 or earlier versions of airOS to avoid possible misconfiguration issues. If a device must be downgraded from airOS v8.5.8, we recommend resetting the device to its factory default condition first.

Bug Fixes

No release would be complete without bug fixes, and thanks to both feedback from the community and our own internal testing we’ve identified and fixed several small annoyances from the previous version of airOS, making airOS v8.5.8 and v6.1.8 better than ever.

For a full list of the changes in airOS v8.5.8 and v6.1.8, please check out the accompanying release notes for each of them in the Downloads section on We look forward to seeing your feedback on these new releases and how they’ve helped you and your network.
